New Cameras Targeting Tailgaters
Wednesday 6th January 2021
Chris
Highways England has stepped up its efforts to curb tailgaters with the help of new roadside cameras. Technology that can detect if vehicles are travelling too close to each other is being trialled on the M1 in Northamptonshire before it's rolled out across the country. The new system has recorded 26,000 tailgating vehicles in the first two months of the trial. That's 419 drivers a day breaking the Highway Code's two-second minimum gap rule. Rather than prosecuting offenders, the police have sent warning letters in the post to reinforce the message to leave a safe distance between vehicles. Drivers can usually be fined £100 and handed three penalty points on their licence. Of the 26,000 tailgaters who received letters, 3,700 were repeat offenders. Some…

Bridge Strike Awareness
Monday 14th December 2020
With approximately five bridge strikes occurring every day in the UK, the Traffic Commissioners are advising operators that severe action could be taken against them if they fail to prepare drivers routes in advance to reduce the odds of these strikes happening. Transport Managers could be held to account for driver error if it is deemed that risk assessments and route learning had not been carried out in advance. The TC has advised that a driver hitting a bridge will initially receive a 6 month vocational licence suspension for a first offence, and Transport Managers will receive a summons to attend a public inquiry to explain what safety systems they have in place to reduce the risks of such incidents. There are…
Repeat Driver CPC Modules to be Rejected
Thursday 26th November 2020
PSV Solutions welcomes the latest news that the DVSA will be monitoring driver CPC uploads for repeated module uploads. We have long advocated for this to happen and this news is definitely a positive for both drivers and training providers such as ourselves. We pride ourselves in offering suitable and job specific relevant modules to both drivers in passenger transport and in road haulage industries. We often hear of delegates sitting the same module 2 or 3 days and even up to the full 35 hours just to receive their DQC card which is then clearly just a box ticking exercise and nowhere near acceptable. This was the message that came out this week directly from JAUPT on behalf of…
